Day By Day, Part II

Day 6 - Wednesday (the 27th) - It was a relaxing day today! My cousin came over this morning and gave both girls a haircut. It's pretty short (for them anyway!). Then we mozied over to the park for a picnic. My mom and dad went and we also met my aunt. It was a rather breezy and chilly day, but the kids had fun and the company was good. The rest of the day was spent relaxing, catching up on facebook and putting a draft together for the blog!! Tomorrow we head for Topeka to visit friends. I'm anxious to see friends, but will be sad to leave Nebraska.

Day 7 - Thursday, May 28th - We woke up this morning knowing this is the last day with my folks. It has been a wonderful visit. We were last here in December and my dad's health hasn't been the best over the past year or so. This trip, he looked WONDERFUL! It was good for me to see him looking so well and getting back to his normal self. He even says he feels better and for him to admit that is saying something! I spent the morning packing up and getting ready to go. Eric's tooth was very loose and I told him if he got it out before we left, he would get a dollar. He worked and worked and finally succeeded (with the help of a string that my mom tied on!). We left around 3:00. We had supper with our friends in Hoyt, Kansas and then we spent the night there (all of their kids are older than ours - 10-17; but the kids love playing with them). They live on 12 acres and have goats, kittens and a dog. The kids had a blast and it was great to see our friends. The kids stayed up until around 11:30 and were up and ready to go around 6:30 (they will crash when we get home!).


Day 8 - Friday (the 29th) - We woke up and had breakfast with our friends and then headed over to some more friends to hang out for a while and have lunch. Their kids are 14, 11, and 9. Our kids and their kids used to play together all the time when we lived in Topeka so they had great fun. It was also good for me to spend time with one of my best friends, Brenda! We left there around 4:00 and headed to some more friends. They have 4 kids - 9, 7, 5, and almost 3 - the kids love playing together and played and played and played. They definitely needed a bath before bedtime! It was great to spend some time with my other best friend, Paula!

I can't believe it's been a little over 10 years since I last posted. Sometimes I wish I would have kept up with the blog, it's a nice record of the time! A lot has happened in those 10 years, but I'm here to document my mom! It's been 12 years since my dad died. Overall, my mom has done really well. She stayed in her own home for about 6 years and then she moved to an independent retirement community. Although she didn't like it at first, she made some great friends and I believe thoroughly enjoyed living there. The last two or three years have been tough on her. Her health has declined somewhat, she uses a walker, has aches and pains, and has taken several falls. She's been so fortunate that none of those falls have resulted in any broken bones and overall, she's recovered well from them. However, this last fall that she took, has taken its toll on her. We Interrupt The Blogging Update . . .

for a current blog post! I had the privilege of going to Fort Hood this week to see my cousin off to Iraq. For several reasons, her mom and dad were not able to come down (Hannah went up to see them the weekend before) and since we are only 4 hours from Fort Hood and family is everything to me, I couldn't let Hannah be deployed without family present. I am so proud of her for choosing to serve our country! It was a very heart wrenching experience. I cried at the thought of Hannah being over there and it was terribly sad to see husbands and wives and fathers and children saying goodbye. Please remember all the troops in your prayers! Back to Updating! It's now June!

Since July has passed and now it's August, I thought it's about time to update the goings on from June! Ready, set, go! We signed the kids up for tennis camp. It's a fun way to be exposed to tennis for little amounts of money! Annual swimming lessons. The kids are pretty good at swimming - but we just like to keep improving upon their skills. We went to the Adrian Peterson football camp in Tyler. It was very hot, but Eric had a lot of fun! We were invited to go boating with some friends! The kids had a great time tubing and trying their hand at skiing. Had fun with friends. Our friends, the Taylors came to visit! And, hopefully you have made it this far, as the the most important part of June - my first born turned 11. Oh my - where does the time go? Thanks for reading about our month of June!
