What Else Have We Done?

We got back from South Padre Island on Saturday evening. I was home for about 12 hours and then drove up to Topeka, Kansas. I was going to Nebraska to visit with my mom and dad before Dad's surgery. My very good friends, Ruth and Ken, watched my kids from Monday morning until Friday night (and believe it or not, they are still my good friends!). I dropped the kids off Monday morning and then drove up to Lincoln. My dad's surgery was on Tuesday, September 22. My only regret about not driving to Lincoln with the kids is that they didn't get the chance to play with their Papa one last time. If only I had known . . .

So, although I spent alot of time between Texas and Nebraska from September through the end of the year, we still did manage to do some things!

Although this isn't a good picture, on the drive home from Lincoln (September 27), we stopped at a hotel to spend the night (I left too late in the day to make the trip all in one day). That night, the girls were horsing around on the bed and Jaelyn fell off. The first stop once we got into Longview was to Taylor Medical to see if Jaelyn broke her finger. They splinted it as if it were broken since the x-ray was inconclusive!



Eric played flag football. Although we missed several of the games because of traveling, he did make it to 4 or 5 games.




We went bowling with friends.






Eric celebrated his 7th birthday in October (thank goodness for friends - Darlene!! - who made him a cake and had a little party for him at her house!). Poor kid, he didn't really get a birthday party. He's looking forward to that in January!




I headed back to Nebraska on October 21 to see my dad. He just moved from the hospital to a rehab facility. We played cards and he appeared to be doing well. Little did I know, it would be my last time to see him here on this earth! Here's my favorite picture of that visit.



So, that caps it for this post! This takes us through October 26, 2009! I'll pick it up from there - same bat time, same bat channel!

I can't believe it's been a little over 10 years since I last posted. Sometimes I wish I would have kept up with the blog, it's a nice record of the time! A lot has happened in those 10 years, but I'm here to document my mom! It's been 12 years since my dad died. Overall, my mom has done really well. She stayed in her own home for about 6 years and then she moved to an independent retirement community. Although she didn't like it at first, she made some great friends and I believe thoroughly enjoyed living there. The last two or three years have been tough on her. Her health has declined somewhat, she uses a walker, has aches and pains, and has taken several falls. She's been so fortunate that none of those falls have resulted in any broken bones and overall, she's recovered well from them. However, this last fall that she took, has taken its toll on her. We Interrupt The Blogging Update . . .

for a current blog post! I had the privilege of going to Fort Hood this week to see my cousin off to Iraq. For several reasons, her mom and dad were not able to come down (Hannah went up to see them the weekend before) and since we are only 4 hours from Fort Hood and family is everything to me, I couldn't let Hannah be deployed without family present. I am so proud of her for choosing to serve our country! It was a very heart wrenching experience. I cried at the thought of Hannah being over there and it was terribly sad to see husbands and wives and fathers and children saying goodbye. Please remember all the troops in your prayers! Back to Updating! It's now June!

Since July has passed and now it's August, I thought it's about time to update the goings on from June! Ready, set, go! We signed the kids up for tennis camp. It's a fun way to be exposed to tennis for little amounts of money! Annual swimming lessons. The kids are pretty good at swimming - but we just like to keep improving upon their skills. We went to the Adrian Peterson football camp in Tyler. It was very hot, but Eric had a lot of fun! We were invited to go boating with some friends! The kids had a great time tubing and trying their hand at skiing. Had fun with friends. Our friends, the Taylors came to visit! And, hopefully you have made it this far, as the the most important part of June - my first born turned 11. Oh my - where does the time go? Thanks for reading about our month of June!
