Catch Up Post #2 - Here We Come Padre Island!
So, in September (yes - that long ago), David had a business trip to South Padre Island. I know it sounds tough, but somebody has to do it!! Well, we decided since we'd be reimbursed for gas mileage and the hotel was paid for for 3 of the nights, we'd just extend it a few extra days and make it a much needed family getaway! Our first stop was at SeaWorld (see previous post). Then we went on to South Padre Island.
The weather was beautiful! I think it rained most of the week before we got there and I think it rained after we left. But, while we were there, we had nothing but sunshine!
Mostly, we played on the beach, in the Gulf and went swimming at the hotel pool. But we also had some other really cool opportunities! The first one was when we went to a sea turtle rescue hospital. We went to visit but we were invited back the next day to help (can you say great homeschool science!!). The kids got to do fun stuff like feed the turtles and give them a bath. They also got clean the outside of the tanks (so people could see through the glass) and they cleaned off the benches. It was a wonderful opportunity and the kids had a great time (except for stuffing shrimp in the squid arm - that, they didn't care for!).
Then, as part of the David's work, they had a kind of luau (can't really think of what you might call it), but it was a lot of food and some Polynesian dancers. The kids had a great time watching the dancers. Speaking of dancing, the last night we were there, we went to a restaurant and they also had dancers. All the kids got to get up and dance at the end of the show. The girls thought it was pretty fun. I think Eric just did it because I asked him to!
One last thing the kids got to do because of David's work was to build a sand castle. They had a professional sand castle builder there to give lessons on how to build a sand castle. The kids weren't initially going to build anything, but once all the adults had started, there was enough stuff for the kids to build as well. Once again, much fun was had by all!
We don't get to go on vacations too often with just our family. When we go somewhere, it is usually to Nebraska or Michigan to visit family (which is all good). So, it was nice to be able to do this and really not use much of David's vacation time! So, I'll leave you with some pictures and hanging on for my next post!!
South Padre Island, here we come! When we first got there, the kids couldn't wait to go to the beach. I was quite a curmudgeon (sp?) at first and said something like "Don't get your clothes wet!". Then I lightened up! Clothes will dry.
