Christmas Update, Part 2

Our plan for this Christmas was to go to Nebraska to celebrate with my side of the family and then to head up to Michigan to celebrate with David's family and see some really good friends as well. Because of the situation with our tenants in Omaha, we realized that we probably wouldn't be able to do both this year. We opted to go to Nebraska for 2 reasons: #1 - my Dad's health hasn't been the best this year (although I have to say he looked really good at Christmas!) so David appeased me so we could go there and #2 - since we now have 2 dogs and my Mom and Dad are OK with us bringing them, we wouldn't have the expense of kenneling them.

So, we left on the Tuesday before Christmas to head up to Nebraska. The weather forecast was predicting rain on the southern part of our trip and possible ice further north. We were blessed in that there was only rain and we had no problems with ice (if I had been blogging last year at Christmas, you would have read about the 14 hour trip turning into 20 because of bad snow and ice - very stressful to say the least!).

On Christmas Eve day, my brother and his family came down and spent the day. The kids always enjoy playing with their older cousins and their older cousins are always so kind to accommodate pretty much every request.

We opened presents, the kids played outside (they were thrilled there was snow), we all played Wii (my mom and dad got that a few weeks ago) and just generally had a great time. I've been very blessed with a close family who cares about each other very much!

Christmas Day is always very laid back. The kids played outside some more (good thing as the day after Christmas all the snow melted - it was 60 degrees!). I had to run to Walgreens to get batteries that we forgot to get beforehand. It was just Mom, Dad, and us - again, just fun being with family. Here are some pictures of the day. I can't believe it's been a little over 10 years since I last posted. Sometimes I wish I would have kept up with the blog, it's a nice record of the time! A lot has happened in those 10 years, but I'm here to document my mom! It's been 12 years since my dad died. Overall, my mom has done really well. She stayed in her own home for about 6 years and then she moved to an independent retirement community. Although she didn't like it at first, she made some great friends and I believe thoroughly enjoyed living there. The last two or three years have been tough on her. Her health has declined somewhat, she uses a walker, has aches and pains, and has taken several falls. She's been so fortunate that none of those falls have resulted in any broken bones and overall, she's recovered well from them. However, this last fall that she took, has taken its toll on her. We Interrupt The Blogging Update . . .

for a current blog post! I had the privilege of going to Fort Hood this week to see my cousin off to Iraq. For several reasons, her mom and dad were not able to come down (Hannah went up to see them the weekend before) and since we are only 4 hours from Fort Hood and family is everything to me, I couldn't let Hannah be deployed without family present. I am so proud of her for choosing to serve our country! It was a very heart wrenching experience. I cried at the thought of Hannah being over there and it was terribly sad to see husbands and wives and fathers and children saying goodbye. Please remember all the troops in your prayers! Back to Updating! It's now June!

Since July has passed and now it's August, I thought it's about time to update the goings on from June! Ready, set, go! We signed the kids up for tennis camp. It's a fun way to be exposed to tennis for little amounts of money! Annual swimming lessons. The kids are pretty good at swimming - but we just like to keep improving upon their skills. We went to the Adrian Peterson football camp in Tyler. It was very hot, but Eric had a lot of fun! We were invited to go boating with some friends! The kids had a great time tubing and trying their hand at skiing. Had fun with friends. Our friends, the Taylors came to visit! And, hopefully you have made it this far, as the the most important part of June - my first born turned 11. Oh my - where does the time go? Thanks for reading about our month of June!
