The Storm Has Passed!
Ike has made his presence known and has moved on to cause problems elsewhere. My prayers are with those on the coast who have suffered great loss and have many days, weeks, and months of work ahead of them.
On the home front here, Ike did minimal damage. We had a few branches break off (not big at all) and we had our electricity the whole time (unlike many folks in Longview and the surrounding areas). Our church was an evacuee site and our family had the privilege of volunteering for a couple of hours on Saturday and about 4 hours on Sunday night. I worked in the children's play area and was blessed to be able to play with some little tykes who didn't seem to realize the impact the hurricane would have on their home life over the next few months. David was a 'roamer' and played games with some of the older kids and chatted with some other folks.
On a less drastic note, the storm has also passed from our schedule of last week. It seems that we were busy with out of the norm activities and everything was left undone. There are mountains of laundry to do, mountains of dishes to do, a field of grass to mow and school to do. The good news is we only got a little behind on school. We should be able to catch up by the end of the week. Most of the furry of last week's schedule was preparing for ELO, preparing for our Luau, and then we decided to go to the homeschool park day on Friday before the storm hit. I've already posted some pics of the Luau, but here are some pictures of the first day of ELO and park day (thanks to Adriana Reagh, I got a couple pictures of Eric at ELO - I'll remember to bring my camera next time!).
First day of ELO - the kids were so excited. Jessica asked if it would be like going to public school?? I said maybe more like private school!

And finally park day last Friday. It was a beatiful day and we left just as the rain from Ike came down!
